Adopt Me! v1.0
DATA.EXE Docs.
Copyright (c) 1993 Andy Stewart
IF YOU HAVE NOT EXECUTED SETUP.EXE DO IT NOW!!!
The Data.Exe file sets up the Adoptme.Dat file.
Run it by entering the command line:
Data adoptme.cfg /l
If the door is registered, you will be asked if
you wish to use your own screens. If so, you
will then be asked to input the name(s) of the
ANSI and ASCII screens. The next questions that
follow are about the door. If its adopted, if
so, the name of the Adopter, and how long of a
delay you wish. Valid delays are between 1 and
60 second. For an unadopted door, I suggest 10-15
seconds, for an adopted door, 5 is good, but this
up to you.
I suggest that you put DATA.EXE and ADOPTME.EXE in
your path_line. Therefore, you can call it from
any directory. This will save LOADS of space if you
running multiple doors. To set up the door, (we'll
use Empire Elite for an example) go to the dir that
the door resides. (C:\WWIV\CHAINS\EMPIRE in my case)
and run DATA.EXE. Answer the questions and the data
is created. If Adopt Me! is registered, and you chose
to use your own screens, creat the screens with the
entered in DATA.EXE and place then here. Now create a
batch file (Or edit the existing one). For example,
to call Empire Elite with Adopt Me! as a trailer you'd
use the following batch file:
@echo off
CD C:\WWIV\CHAINS\EMPIRE (Changes to the door dir)
EMPIRE EMPIRE.CFG (Runs the door)
ADOPTME ADOPTME.CFG (Runs adoptme)
CD C:\WWIV (Returns to the BBS dir)
To run Adopt Me! first, switch the Empire and Adopt Me!
lines.
An important thing to remember is ADOPTME.DAT and The ASCII
and ANSI screens MUST be in the directory of the door
the refer to! The EXE files can be anywhere in your path,
along with ADOPTME.CFG.
That's all there is to setting up Adopt Me! Enjoy
and thank you for trying Adopt Me!
